Successful Interdisciplinary Pain and Functional Restoration Programs: Fact or Fiction?
This symposium will present information on the characteristics and logistics of successful interdisciplinary pain and functional restoration programs, including how to start such a program, the necessary components of interdisciplinary pain programs and functional restoration programs, best practice management techniques, and outcomes that demonstrate the success of such programs. This symposium also will review the history of such programs, the reasons that some have survived and others have closed, and the need to continue a focus on interdisciplinary care as a viable and valuable treatment in our armamentarium for the well-being of our patients. Presentations will be structured on evidence-based data and personal experience. The faculty come from different backgrounds and approaches, but all have sustained successful programs focusing on adult patient interdisciplinary pain treatment and functional restoration for multiple categories of patients in terms of diagnoses, types of pain, and insurance coverage, including indemnity, managed care, Medicare, and worker compensation insurances. This symposium will consist of a 5-minute introduction, and four 25-minute presentations, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period for discussion by the entire panel with the audience.
