| Medical Conditions for Patients with Pain After Natural Disaster: A Proactive Management Approach | |||
| Natural disasters can profoundly disrupt medical infrastructure and healthcare delivery. From the perspective of a pain medicine specialist, this session will detail specific problems encountered in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita that swept through the Gulf region in 2005. The session will outline proactive strategies for managing patients who use opioids and other substances with physiological withdrawal symptoms in times of disaster. Also discussed will be options for managing pain by alternative methods, with few resources and strategies, to introduce patients to new “rescuing” healthcare providers. | |||
