| (304) Neuromodulation Consensus Guidelines: Electrical Stimulation and Intrathecal Therapies | |||
| Utilization of neuromodulation therapies, specifically intrathecal drug delivery (IDD) and spinal cord stimulation (SCS), has significantly increased over the past several years. Historically, neuromodulation therapies were considered only after years of failed conventional therapies. However, technological advances and novel analgesic compounds have enhanced the safety, reliability, and efficacy of neuromodulation therapies, thus providing a rationale for earlier use in the treatment of refractory pain conditions. Expert panels of physicians and nonphysicians were recently convened to update previous recommendations and form consensus guidelines for the rational use of IDD and SCS. These panels reviewed existing data and formulated suggested algorithms for the use of neuromodulation therapies based on best evidence and expert opinion. This symposium will review the consensus guidelines developed by the expert panels and will examine economic considerations as they relate to access to care for neuromodulation therapies. | |||
