| The incidence of thalamic and other post-stroke pain conditions, spinal-cord-injury pain, and phantom-limb pain will be presented, as well as our understanding of the peripheral and central nervous system dysfunctions responsible for these syndromes. Pathophysiology, both anatomic and neurochemical, will be discussed, followed by a review of current treatment protocols. These disorders represent peripheral and central neuropathic pain states and are models for research. Also, the results of research studies pertinent to possible future treatment will be presented. | |||
