| (203) Interventional Psychiatry and Pain Management: The Frontier of Neurotherapeutic Procedures for the Brain and Spinal Cord | |||
| Over the last 10 years, the brain structures involved in processing and perceiving pain have been better elucidated. These are potential interventional targets for improving pain control. Many of these areas also process affect (depression and anxiety), and treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions can be improved through neuromodulation of these areas. These techniques may have applications in pain medicine and are at the frontier of interventional pain treatment. This session will discuss these concepts in relation to electroconvulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, vagal nerve stimulation, deep brain stimulation, and cingulotomy. | |||
