American Academy of Pain Medicine

The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) is a major force in advancing the practice of Pain Medicine. As a catalyst for initiating investigative research critical to the advancement of Pain Medicine as a specialty, AAPM offers unequaled opportunities for physicians to advance knowledge and improve skills in the management of pain. Founded in 1983 as the American Academy of Algology, AAPM has a membership of physicians with training in a variety of specialties, including anesthesiology, family practice, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, physiatry, and psychiatry. The mission of the Academy is to advance the specialty of Pain Medicine and the comprehensive care of patients with pain through promotion of best clinical practices, research, advocacy, and continuing medical education.

NEW FOR 2009 - Poster Awards

The 2009 Scientific Poster Abstract Committee will select up to 6 scientific poster abstract submitters to present their research during "live" Plenary Research Highlights sessions held each morning during the 2009 Annual Meeting. This honor includes the recognition of "faculty" status at the meeting. As faculty of the annual meeting, the presenters’ airfare, lodging and registration are complementary. As an additional reward, each of these presenters will also receive complementary meeting registration for the 2010 AAPM Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

Submission deadline
Submit abstracts to www.painmed.org no later than 11:59 pm Eastern Standard time, Friday, August 1, 2008.

Online abstract submission
All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the online abstract submission form available on the AAPM Web site at www.painmed.org.

Notification
Applicants will be notified by August 30, 2008 regarding acceptance of submissions.

Selection criteria
Each abstract submitted will be reviewed for the following elements: (a) scientific quality rigor, (b) broad appeal to the interests of the membership, and (c) timeliness of the topic. Abstracts will be selected by the AAPM Scientific Abstract Subcommittee in a blind review process.

Presentation format
Accepted abstracts will be selected for presentation in poster format. Posters will be on display Wednesday evening, January 29 at 5:00 pm through Friday, January 30 at 10:00 AM.

Publication
Accepted abstracts will be published in the January/February 2009 issue of Pain Medicine, the official journal of AAPM, and also in the AAPM Annual Meeting Program Book.


No names or titles should be included in the abstract title or text. Nor should the abstract title appear in the text. Names will be automatically hidden during the abstract review process and will be automatically inserted and properly formatted
upon publication.

Presenting authors will be automatically informed of the unique ID numbers and passwords assigned to their abstracts. Abstracts may be viewed and modified at any time between submission and the deadline, using the assigned ID# and password. Please note: Presenting authors will be required to fill out a disclosure form.
